CARDIN Byrl Harry, loving husband for 56 years and devoted father for 50 years, went to be with his Lord on January 29, 1998.
He was born in Commerce, Oklahoma, on December 25, 1909, to Thomas Jasper Cardin and Lulu Leonard Cardin. With the deaths of Thomas in 1917 and Lulu in 1920, the Cardin children were taken in and raised by the IOOF Children's Home in Carmen, Oklahoma. After finishing high school, he left the Children's Home at the age of 18. He eventually moved to Oklahoma City and began working for the Anderson-Prichard Oil Company. He married Mary Elizabeth Howland on January 24, 1942, and was sent to war one month later. He served his country bravely and honorably at the 175th Station Hospital in New Guinea. At the end of the war, after three years of service, he had attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Upon returning from the war, he began his own bookkeeping and tax service. He remained active in the field of public accounting until his retirement at the age of 82. In this 45 year career, his sense of duty and honor touched thousands. He was also a member and Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where his service to God, and his concern for others, was a model for both his family and his community. Private family services were held Monday, February 2, 1998, at the Chapel of Hahn-Cook Funeral Home, with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of choice.
He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mary Cardin of OKC; his only son, Paul Cardin of OKC; and his grandson, James Cardin. He is also survived by his only nephew, Thomas Cardin Williams of Accokeek, MD; two grand nephews, Thomas Cardin Williams, Jr., and Gerald Williams; and 5 great grand nephews and nieces. But most importantly, he is survived by the memory of a man who saw clearly his duty to honor his God, his country, and his family, and who did so faithfully for a lifetime.
